As for high tiers, until the other day I didn't have any regular ships above tier 7 and completed most of the missions in tiers 5 and 6.
I have a Giulio Cesare that was very useful for some of the BB missions but again, it was bought during the discount period with doubloons. I came late to the campaign but was able to catch up on the prior missions in a few days before the last set became available by playing normally albeit putting in a few more hours than normal. I can and I will deny it for the most part. And it makes you and your teammates do stupid stuff in order to complete campaign objectives, instead of playing normally to win and getting the promotional stuff as a bonus, so it degrades the play experience as well. At least if you aren't already high tiered and/or have access to some of the real xp and credit printing machines. You can't deny that it's grindy as all hell.
